Victor Sahib Muhammed was born in Newark, New Jersey. His mother and younger sister were both piano players, and his older sister majored in music at Rutgers. They all gave victor an early education in a wide range of musical genres and artists. His young tastes ran from the soul of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder to the rhythm of Elton John and Elvis Presley, a fact that amuses his friends to this day. But it was upon hearing the pulsating Disco sound at the age of 12 that his path was set.
The fresh new sound left him wondering what exactly was in his ears. But once an older friend explained the and what a Disco DJ did, young Vic knew that he wanted to play those records.
At 13, he figured out how to make his mother’s home stereo play the tape deck from one speaker, and the turntable from the other. With a handful of disco records and this makeshift setup, he practiced day and night. The practive paid off when he was able to join galaxy 3, a group of local DJs who spun at school dances and house parties. Soon, Vic was spining on a proper setup of two turntables and a mixer.
Victor Muhammedd became DJ Sahib.
At 16, Sahib was the youngest Dj around his neighborhood. Being the "young buy", he strived to be at the same level as the older jocks and worked twice as hard. Once he became of age, he hit the club scene to finally see the well-known jocks he listened to on the radio. He heard Tony Humphries at Zanzabar, Tee Scott at Better Days, Merlin Boggs at Club 88, and, of course, Larry Levan at the famous Paradise Garage.
Sahib witnessed the evolution of the music now called House.
Currently, Professor Sahib lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and continues his experiments with the roster of One World Muzik.
One World Muzik is proud to add Professor Sahib to our list of talent.
